Pearl Oyster Mushroom Grow Kit
Grow gourmet mushrooms on your kitchen counter. No experience needed.
This kit is a fully colonized, ready-to-fruit block of Pearl Oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus), the most forgiving gourmet mushroom there is. Cut it open, mist it a couple of times a day, and watch soft, velvety clusters appear, usually within about two weeks. It's happy at normal room temperature, which makes it our top pick for first-time growers and gift-giving.
Three ways to order:
- Made fresh to order (ships in 3–4 weeks): We grow your block after you order, so it arrives at peak vigor.
- Holiday gift (ships week of Dec 14): Reserved from our holiday batch and timed to arrive just before the holidays, fresh and ready to open. Limited quantity.
- Ready to ship (ships in 1–3 days): When we have blocks on hand. If it shows sold out, choose one of the options above.
Includes WeMush tracking: Every kit ships with a QR code linked to WeMush, our cultivation tracking platform. Scan it to log your harvests and follow your grow.
What's in the box
- A fully colonized Pearl Oyster fruiting block in a filter patch grow bag
- Step-by-step growing instructions
You'll need: A spray bottle and a bright spot out of direct sunlight.
How it works
- Open within a week or two of arrival. The block is alive and ready to go.
- Cut an X about 2 inches wide in the front of the bag.
- Place it where there's enough indirect light to read by, out of direct sun and away from heaters and drafts. Not in a cupboard.
- Mist 2–3 times a day, aiming at the air around the opening to keep it humid. In dry winter air, loosely tent the kit with a clear plastic bag.
- Harvest in about 1–2 weeks, as the caps go from domed to nearly flat, while the edges still curl slightly down. Twist the whole cluster off at the base.
- Grow again. Keep misting and most blocks produce a second, smaller flush in about 2–3 weeks.
Good to know
- Ideal conditions: 55–75°F (13–24°C), which suits most homes.
- Long stems, small caps? The kit wants more fresh air or more light.
- Fine white fuzz on the block or mushrooms is usually the mushroom's own mycelium. If a white patch turns green, or a fast cottony web spreads over the mushrooms, that's mold; contact us.
- Spores: Oysters drop a lot of spores as they mature, so harvest on time and don't grow them in a bedroom.
- Freshness matters: If you're giving it as a gift, choose the holiday option so it arrives close to the big day.
Our guarantee: If your kit arrives damaged or doesn't produce when the instructions are followed, contact us and we'll make it right.
